In both versions of the argument, Berkeley audaciously claims this argument alone is sufficient to establish basic idealism (the view that everyday items of the world cannot exist without a perceiving mind).
More deeply, however, we can begin to appreciate why, for Berkeley to profess this type of skepticism is to depart in a radical way from the common folk.
